"Reading - is a journey of discovery."
I began my journey to the Reader's Club 2 years ago and must confess that encountered there with unforgettable and marvelous "sightseeing" like different readers, unique books, various styles off writing, thinking, analysing.
· I challenged myself by trying the styles that I never have read before like fantasy;
·in group discussions I found out my certain view and learned to defend it;
·I overcame the fear of expressing my opinion in the group. When you got involved in discussion of some interesting book you just forget about language mistakes that u may do, some problems of pronunciation etc.
The most important acquire from the Reader's Club for me were people that I met there, who by all means became my little "family". Achievements of other members of club, books that they have read greatly motivated me to work and learn more in life.
So, today I can say that Reader's Club is the "journey" where everybody could find a lot of interesting and challenging things for himself, whose "sightseeing" are as beautiful and imperious as seven wonders of the world! Moreover it is just a great fun and pleasure!
Before I knew English passively and I had a language barrier. I studied it in the lyceum and myself but I need a chance to communicate more intensively. My teacher advised me to go to the British Council and I plucked up my courage to do it only after a year. I really liked it, there is so much of everything that can help you to achieve your learning goals. Then I found out about the Readers Club and we formed a friendly group and I felt that the fear to speak has disappeared. I started thinking in English and my English has improved. I started to speak fluently enough and that’s how I found a job in Dubai.
My Success Story can seem very funny for normal human but for me it is really Godsend. I am very shy and bashful and I feel embarrassment to speak with people even in my native language. Once I became to learn English I could write, read in English and understand English speech but I absolutely could not speak in English. I dreamt and desired that one day I would speak in English but when I attempted to speak, something stopped me and I felt myself like in cage. One day amiable counsellor of BC made me tempting offer to participate in Readers Club and I could not say no. I was scared first time in Reader Club listening of people speaking in English and thought I would never be able to speak like this. But our bewitching facilitator made everything to improve our speaking skill and invigorated us in our initiatives. I have been in Readers Club 7 months and with every lesson my language barrier gradually diminished. I did not feel myself like an ugly duckling anymore I felt myself like a ravishing swan outside the cage because I could speak in English and my language barrier had been destroyed. It is not my merit it was made by couple of attractive and fragile girls from BC. RC changed me I do not mean that I became impudent and dissolute. I am still shy but now I am a prude who can speak in English *-_-*
I have been a Management through Reading club member for 1.5 year. Mostly I like participating at this club for sharing personal and professional experiences. All books that we discuss raise important questions for personal and professional development, such as risk & time management, problem solving, and critical thinking. Attendees put themselves into shoes of the story characters.
Moreover, I have been experienced being a facilitator in one session. It was great challenge and experience. I learned more about ability to listen and connect people’s ideas into smooth discussion. And I liked it very much.
I hope to read more stories about successful people for my own development and achieving my own goals.
I’ve been participating in readers’ club activity for several years. Having start at intermediate level, I discovered attractive depths and excitement of acquainting myself through literature with English culture. Under the tactful and delicate guidance of our RC facilitators I improved my ability to share and discuss with opinions; moreover, I’ve developed the way how to put arguments before various audiences.
In fact, being a member of RC inspired me to pass an IELTS exam and apply for MTh by research degree at the University of Edinburgh; consequently I got optimistic score of 6.5 and my topic of research was admitted at the University. I’m grateful to RC facilitators and members for inspiring with life my creative potential and new friends I have acquired.
