The Alternative Music Festival ‘Creating Legends’ in Tashkent was first conceived by the British Council in 2004 to support the creativity of the most talented young alternative musicians living in Uzbekistan.

The second festival took place in February 2006.  More than 120 bands entered our talent competition, ranging from indie and hip-hop to electronic and various forms of rock music and 23 bands were selected to perform on three Festival nights together with the UK band “Kiosk”. The performances were themed into hip-hop, electronic and rock music and attracted an audience of over 15,000 people.

The Alternative Music Festival is a unique event not only as because it focuses on professional development of the young creative musicians in Uzbekistan but also provides them with a platform to perform to new audiences alongside UK musicians.  Demand for tickets was huge with 12,000 complimentary tickets being requested from the British Council office in only four days.

UK Producer Mick Glossop visited Tashkent to work with a number of the best bands and the new music born out of this creative process was recorded and a CD produced to help inspire the future of new music in Uzbekistan. A concert video has also been made of the festival that ensured that millions more young people around the country also enjoyed it.

To obtain the above CD or concert video please contact us at the British Council.
