in Uzbek National Drama Theatre

In May 2007 the British Council initiated and supported designing and staging an Uzbek version of one of most outspoken UK playwriters Mark Ravenhills' 'Product' play on the stage of Uzbek National Drama Theatre named after Khamza (Director - one of the most famous theatre directors and actors in Uzbekistan Yakub Akhmedov). It was the first time when contemporary British author was staged in Uzbek language.

Ravenhill plays a filmmaker pitching his newest script to young starlet Amy, over whom he paws and purrs as the salesman turned showman. The screenplay and product in question is a tale of love, trust and religious fundamentalism.

The play was directed by Alexander Gamirov

Actors: Takhir Saidov and Gulchekhra Ibragimbekova (one of the most famous actors on Uzbek stage)

"This whole production should be placed in quotation marks: it functions perfectly as a comedy and critique, scoring top marks in both categories. Laughing at a topic usually reserved for grave, fearful discussions should not create a repentant audience: it should reveal to us exactly how much we are being made fools of by investing in the farce outside the theatre.
