What does the British Council do?

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations and are represented in 110 countries. Our purpose is to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and to increase appreciation of the UK’s ideas and achievements.

Our centre in Uzbekistan was established in 1996. We are here to create learning and development opportunities for people in Uzbekistan by providing access to information, ideas and expertise from the UK and around the world.
We aim to work with partners countrywide and our priorities are to support:
education and training needs of young people in Uzbekistan
  development of reform policies
English language learning needs of teachers and students
creative communities and to build cultural links with UK
  social development

Is There a Learning Centre in the British Council?

As part of a wider strategic review we have closed our Learning Centre operations in Tashkent. We continue to run all kinds of cultural events, conferences and seminars in such areas as English. Education and Arts as well as the administration of UK examinations each year.
The British Council and Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on working together. As part of their development plans WIUT will establish their own Learning Centre supported by the British Council, which will host the materials from the Learning Centre, provide membership to current British Council Learning Centre members and provide additional services for the community. WIUT are planning to expand their campus and the WIUT Learning Centre will form part of this expansion. We expect that the expansion will be completed in time for the start of next academic year in September 2012.
Candidates enrolling for IELTS examinations can access test materials at the Resource and Development Centre in the Kredo Progress Organisation at 2 Furqat Street, 10059, Tashkent. (Tel. +998 90 108 0 109).
