At the core of our ZeroCarbonCity initiative is the photographic exhibit touring the globe titled NorthWouthEastWest produced in collaboration with The Climate Group.
Ten of the world's top photographers from Magnum Photos were commissioned to capture images from ten diverse countries around the world to illustrate not only the impact of climate change, but also the solutions which are being implemented to reduce carbon emissions in communities north, south, east and west.
Learn more about the NorthSouthEastWest exhibit and view its current location, tour schedule and photos from its visit to World Environment Day 2005 in San Francisco, CA.
The ZeroCarbonCity program aims to foster debate worldwide through holding a series of city debates in each country visited. The program also partnered with openDemocracy to offer a global online debate with supporting materials by scientists, technologists, city planners and policy makers. The main debate began on April 20, 2005 and ran until June 10, 2005, ahead of the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland in July 2005.
The debate has now been archived and can still be accessed online. Visit the debate archive to read responses from the public and to read articles from international experts who joined the forum discussion. The debate site also offers special features such as an online Carbon Clock showing the rise in carbon dioxide emissions by the second.
This debate and your ideas were incorporated into a presentation and summary report, "The politics of climate change," distributed at the G8 summit. This report will be available online later this year.
Brought to you by the British Council USA and UK Science and Technology, several British experts - together with their colleagues in Vancouver, San Francisco and Los Angeles - sat down for a pair of ZeroCarbonCity Transatlantic Panels. This first series of workshops proved to be a set of lively transatlantic discussions about combating climate change at a local level. Learn more about the individual panelists. Also, you can now view the participants' comments from the Los Angeles Panel online.
