What sort of programs and courses are available?
There are four main study abroad program types:
Enroll directly at a UK university You can apply directly to a UK university that accepts study abroad students.  Direct enrollment will afford great opportunities to meet British students and fully immerse yourself in the culture.  Our Study Abroad Database lists places where you can apply.
University exchange Your university may have arrangements with UK universities where a certain number of US students go to the UK for a term in exchange for a number of UK students at the US institution. These programs are usually competitive and are not found at every US university.
Third-party study abroad providers You can apply directly to an outside organisation that will handle the logistics of enrolling US students at a program it has established with a UK university.  These programs normally provide social events, guaranteed accomodation, orientation and support, but will charge an extra processing fee.
Island programs Your university may have programs set up where its students go overseas together and take classes, normally taught by US professors.  These programs are not run at UK universities.

How much will it cost?
Costs will vary according to program type, and you should contact the programs to which you are interested in applying to find out the most current fees.  Check out our Scholarship Database or conside the Gilman Scholarship, which provides US students with funding for non-degree programs abroad.

How do I apply?
Your method of application will depend on the program to which you apply. Please check with the university at which you are currently enrolled to ensure that any credits you earn at or through another institution will transfer and be counted toward your degree.  Search our Study Abroad Database to find the right program for you.
