Student Work Placements

There are a variety of options for students to undertake work placements in the UK. Work experience is a great way to internationalize your resume and experience a new culture at the same time.

HOW TO SEARCH FOR A UK WORK PLACEMENT

If you are a US student, have you considered doing a work placement in the UK as part of your university curriculum? More British universities are now offering work placements in fields ranging from politics to science as an integral part of their programs.

If you are interested in a work placement while studying in the UK, check with your chosen UK institutions to find out what they offer. Your study abroad advisor also should be able to assist you in finding the perfect student work placement program.

BUNAC WORK IN BRITAIN

The British Universities North America Club (BUNAC) operates a scheme that allows US citizens who are full-time students at a US university or who have graduated within the past six months to work in the UK for up to six months. BUNAC does not find jobs for students, but does provide work permits, job search assistance and support before and during students’ stay in the UK.

VISAS FOR WORK PLACEMENTS

For the most comprehensive information please see UK Visas or Working in the UK.

Browse through Working in the UK’s guidance notes for more information on eligibility criteria and the application process.

Please note that individuals are not permitted to apply for work permits on their own behalf. A UK-based employer must apply on behalf of the person they wish to employ.
