Still considering where to study? Check out our city of the month.
Application requirements vary widely from program to program. Applications to American university programs in the UK can be very different from applications to UK university programs.
If you’re applying directly to a UK university, be sure to check out the university’s web pages for international students. UK universities have a team working with international students. Email or call the international student office to verify application requirements and learn about student housing options.
Also, be sure to review our guide to visa and immigration requirements.
Did you know that you can apply to up to five universities with just one application?
The application system Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) simplifies the admissions process by allowing you to complete only one application for up to five programs (up to four for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine applications) and for only one fee of £15.

You can also apply directly to UK Universities. Be sure to check out the admissions requirements for each institution on their web pages. If you have a question you can contact the university’s International Office with questions.
Also, be sure to read our guide to visa and immigration requirements.
Entrance requirements vary by university, but all US-educated students should plan on submitting an undergraduate transcript. UK universities normally do not require standardized admissions tests (though MBA students will need GMAT scores).
On UK university websites, you may see reference to the following UK undergraduate grade classifications:
•First-class honors (or “first”)
•Upper second-class honors (or “2.1”)
•Lower second-class honors (or “2.2”)
•Third-class honors (or “third”)
•Ordinary
A first is roughly comparable to a high A average, a 2.1 to a low A average, and a 2.2 to a high B average.
Many university web pages have admissions requirements outlined for US undergraduates. If not listed, contact the International Office and ask.
There is no formal closing date for applications at most institutions, but we recommend starting to assemble information 9 to 12 months ahead of time and applying early. Programs at popular institutions may be full by early March.
