About the scholarship

Marshall Scholarships allow up to 45 young Americans to study in the United Kingdom for two years. This annual scholarship was first established by the British Government in 1953 to celebrate the implementation of the European Recovery Program (Marshall Plan).  The Marshall Scholarship has played and continues to play an important role in strengthening the unique relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Marshall Scholarship is a two (and in some cases three) year grant to study at an academic institution in the United Kingdom that includes:

  • University fees
  • Living allowance
  • Round trip ticket to the UK
  • Support of a dependent spouse
  • Annual book grant
  • Annual thesis grant
  • Research and daily travel grant
Who can apply?

The scholarship is open to American undergraduate and graduate students that meet the following requirements:

  • US citizens
  • Graduated with a first degree from an accredited four year university or college in the United States by the start of the scholarship tenure
  • Graduated with a cumulative GPA of least 3.7 (A-)
  • Have formulated a feasible program of study to culminate in a second degree within two years
Where can I study?

The Marshall Scholarship may be used at any accredited university in the United Kingdom.
