The US government has one scholarship especially for non-degree study abroad students like you! The Gilman Scholarship provides awards of up to $5,000 for US citizens who are undergraduate students at two and four-year institutions to pursue country-based semester or academic year study opportunities abroad.

As you search for scholarships, you will find that most scholarships are for students doing full degrees (usually graduate students).

Still, the tips below can lead you to a successful scholarship search.

• First, look to our Scholarship Database. This database is the only place on the web that lists scholarships just for US citizens who want to study in the UK.

• Contact the UK universities where you are applying to see if they have extra funding information.

• Contact your US university to see if it has awards solely for its students. Your study abroad advisor should be able to answer this question.

• Apply for the Gilman Scholarship if you are eligible.
