British Council USA
Document certification and exams

Unlike other British Council offices around the world, we regret that we do not offer examination services at our US offices. Our offices, located in the British Embassy in Washington, DC, the British Consulate Los Angeles, and the British Consulate New York, are not open to the public for security reasons. Unfortunately, British Consulate offices in the United States do not have the capacity to invigilate examinations either.

However, we can inform you of several possibilities:

We recommend you consult the Consortium for College Testing for participants in your area. You will find contact details, fees and test centre information on their website.

You should also contact the public universities in the state in which you reside to find out if they have examination facilities on their campus. Contact information for US universities, by state, can be found here.

For examination services in the DC area, please contact the University of Maryland, College Park, at +1-301-314-7688.

Additionally, please be advised that the British Council document certifaction service in the US has been temporarily suspended. THE BRITISH COUNCIL DOES NOT CURRENTLY VALIDATE OR AUTHENTICATE DEGREES, TRANSCRIPTS, OR OTHER EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTS AT OUR US OFFICES. For information on legalisation certificates, contact the Legalisation Office of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
