Wish you could do more to promote study abroad on your campus?
Wondering how to create more interest among students of all majors?
Want to find ways to address the re-entry challenges of your returning students?
The Student Ambassador Program was designed to provide you with extra support in promoting UK programs on your campus. Ambassadors can not only help you organize, publicize and hold events, they are a great way to reach new student audiences. As peers, they are in an ideal position to spread interest in - and enthusiasm for - study abroad. At the same time, the program helps returnees maintain their connection to the UK, learn valuable presentation and organization skills and be empowered to make a difference in something they feel passionate about. Here's what one ambassador had to say about the program:
"Becoming a Student Ambassador has allowed me to channel my personal experience in England towards helping others embark on their own journeys - effectively continuing the cycle of global exchange and understanding." ~ Helen Hsueh, University of California, Berkeley
The British Council USA Student Ambassador Program has spaces for 69 students. No more than two students may be nominated from the same US institution. We would like to have a cross section of students who have studied in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
We are looking for students who:
- have recently studied at a UK institution ("island" programs do not qualify).
- are available to promote studying in the UK at their US institution campuses throughout the entire academic year.
- are able to speak intelligently, positively and enthusiastically about their UK experiences.
NOMINATION PROCESS
- The US or UK advisor will complete the nomination form.
- The student will complete a short essay.
- Both the nomination form and essay should be emailed to Bridget Donahue.
- We will confirm the student's nomination and they will be invited to participate in a phone interview with a British Council USA coordinator.
- If the student is selected into the program, we will notify their US or UK advisor. The student will receive information on the program and a number of resources to use at his or her events throughout the year.
