Diran spoke at Black British Aesthetics Today at Howard University on April 8, 2006, a symposium concerning contemporary black British culture. Professionals, scholars and writers participated in this multidisciplinary gathering which focused on the artistic aspirations and accomplishments of contemporary British artists across art forms. UK author Diran Adebayo electrified DC this spring as the newest British Council USA UK Writer-in-Residence at Georgetown University.  From March 13 to April 14, Diran taught and gave public readings at Georgetown and throughout the Washington DC area.
