I’M A UK-BASED ARTIST OR ARTS PROFESSIONAL:

Where can I find general information about the US market?
We've developed a set of resources on our website to give UK artists and UK-based arts organizations greater insight into the complex US market.
Although it’s by no means comprehensive, we also have some recommendations on where to find networking, funding and other information provided by American service and information bodies, organized by artistic discipline.
Where can I search for arts residency programs or other opportunities in the US?
The Alliance of Artists Communities is a nationwide consortium for professionally-run artist communities and a resource for nonprofit organizations that support artists in the development of their work. It publishes a directory of residency opportunities in the US and features a searchable database of artist communities on its website.
In addition, the New York Foundation for the Arts has developed a continually updated database of funding opportunities and residency programs, ranging throughout the US and across artistic disciplines.
Where can I find an arts-related internship or job opportunity in the US?
You can find useful resources in the Arts Jobs, Opportunities and Internships section of our website.

How can I approach the British Council to promote my work or fund a specific international project?
If you are based in the UK, we recommend that you look first to the British Council's global website which explains how we work in the Arts across the world as well as information about our work in specific disciplines or sectors. Look to our Arts Group's pages to find information on working with us, including information about what we do and what we don't do. You can also find additional information on funding and support for UK artists interested in international projects on these pages.
Our American office maintains additional information resources for UK-based artists and arts professionals wishing to visit the United States; these can be found in the Working With Us section of our site.
Where can I find funding for international exchanges and arts projects?
Where can I find information on the process for obtaining a visa to work or perform in the US?
Information about obtaining the necessary visa for artists travelling to the US can be found at the website for the US Embassy in London.
In addition, some of the information we've collected to assist UK performing artists in Navigating the US Visa Process will be useful for many artists planning to visit the US.
I am a UK visual artist who has been invited to present my work in the US - can the British Council support my exhibition?

The British Council administers a single grant scheme intended specifically for visual artists, the Grants to Artists Program. Grants to Artists is designed to help promote contemporary British art by assisting emerging, UK-based professional artists to exhibit overseas.

The scheme is administered with guidance from members of a subcommittee in consultation with British Council offices overseas. Either the artist, curator or hosting US venue may apply - full information about the program including application criteria and deadlines is available online.
