Call for Entries: Southern California Climate Change Photo Competition

Amateur Photographers Invited to Submit Photos HIghlighting Causes of and Solutions to Climate Change

WASHINGTON, February 16 – The British Council USA, the UK’s international organization for educational and cultural relations, invites up-and-coming photographers in Southern California to submit photographs on the theme of “Climate Change: Causes, Effects and Solutions in Los Angeles and Beyond.”

The contest is being held in honor of “NorthSouthEastWest: A 360º View of Climate Change,” a photographic exhibit on display at the UCLA Institute of the Environment from March 6 to March 17.  Developed by the British Council in partnership with The Climate Group and Magnum Photos, the exhibit chronicles the impact of climate change in communities from all parts of the globe.  Award-winning Magnum photographer Alex Majoli will be on hand to judge the competition.

All contest entries must be related to climate change in Southern California.  Topics may include the physical and natural environment; technology; food; health; urban life; the economy; leadership; and renewable solutions.  Winners will be selected based on originality, composition and visual impact and announced at a special reception on March 15.  Prizes include an iPod, iTunes gift certificates and more.

The competition is open to U.S. residents only; entrants must not be professional photographers.  The deadline to enter is March 8, 2006.  For rules and information on how to enter, please visit the contest website.
