Put your international relations skills to use

The UK’s international organization for educational and cultural relations, the British Council builds long-term relationships between the US and the UK and fosters appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements.

We increase recognition of the wide array of learning opportunities available in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and facilitate educational cooperation between the US and UK. Through transatlantic artistic partnerships, we introduce the American public to high-quality, groundbreaking creative achievements from the UK, and our science programs build networks that draw upon the UK's innovation in climate change and other disciplines.  We also develop initiatives that give a voice to the next generation of leaders on both sides of the Atlantic, encouraging them to work together to explore solutions to current and future global issues.

Located at the British Embassy in Washington, DC, we also serve as the Embassy's Cultural Department.

When jobs and internships are available, they will be posted to our website, so check back often! Unfortunately, we cannot accept unsolicited résumés.

If you are interested in working with the UK, you may also want to check out opportunities with the British Council's worldwide offices, or consider applying for positions with the British government in the USA.

PLEASE NOTE: All applicants to the British Council's office in Washington, DC must be legally permitted to work in the United States to be considered.  We are not able to sponsor applicants for visas.

Additionally, under US State Department requirements, the British Council may only employ as non-diplomatic staff US citizens, US green holders, or 'A' visa holders.  If you hold a visa other than an 'A' visa you are not currently eligible to work at the British Council.

The British Council is committed to equal opportunity and diversity. We encourage applications from candidates fully reflecting the diversity of the society in which we operate.
