Closed groups for corporate clients

Our work with corporate clients follows a five-stage model:

  • needs analysis and testing
  • English language training proposal
  • agreement/invoice
  • continuous assessment during the course
  • feedback: attendance, reports and certificates

Needs analysis

The first step is for us to visit you to discuss further your needs, to look at the type of English your staff need in the workplace, at their background, general aims and objectives, plus the desired pattern of training.

Testing

Once you have identified the staff who need training, we will carry out testing. This consists of a written exam followed by an individual interview with an examiner. The results of the two tests enable us to pinpoint the level of English of that particular employee, and also to ascertain their own individual needs. Testing can take place in the company or at the premises of the new British Council building. The test fee equals 50UAH per person deductable from a course payment at the point of registration.

Proposal

After testing we will send you a proposal for English language training for your employees which includes:

  • The results for all employees and an interpretation of the levels
  • Suggested groups formed on the basis of test results and the company's priorities. Maximum class size is 12 people. Ideally the students in a group should be of one homogenous level, to facilitate more effective learning
  • Recommended course - length and class schedule
  • Course types - General English, Business English, English for Lawyers, international exams preparation classes or special skills courses. The recommended course type is based on the test results and the company's needs. While General English courses are given at all levels, Business English courses are offered at pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper-intermediate levels. English for Lawyers is offered at upper-intermediate level. They are designed to enable business people and students of business to practise a variety of business communication skills. At all levels the lessons are conducted entirely in English, in order to improve students' communicative ability.
  • Cost: Companies are charged on an hourly basis. One clock hour (60 min) of tuition costs 42 GBP per group of not more than 12 students (the cost of course books is not included in tuition fees). A minimum course consists of 48 hours of tuition.

Payment can be transferred to either our London account in pounds or paid in cash to the cashier’s desk at the British Council office.

Location of training:

Tuition can take place either at the company or at the British Council, where we have 9 fully-equipped classrooms. Students will also have the opportunity to join our Resource and Information Centre, as well as English Speaking Club (link) on a free-of-charge basis, and to be involved in other British Council activities.

Agreement and invoice

Following the company's approval of the proposal, an agreement is signed before the start of the course. The agreement includes all major terms and conditions negotiated between the Company and the Teaching Centre. A copy of the standard agreement is available upon request. The company is invoiced for the entire course after the agreement is signed.

Feedback

We operate a system of continuous assessment whereby students receive counselling and guidance based upon their performance in class and in homework. We will provide the company with a mid-term attendance report. At the end of the course each student receives a report including the course grade received, comments made by the teacher on the student's performance and recommendations for future studies. Copies of these reports are also sent to the company's management.

In addition, upon successful completion of an entire level (false beginners, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate), students will receive a British Council certificate.
