Purpose

To improve usage and understanding of the language of Law through English. Through a wide variety of legal and law related texts students will learn the reading, vocabulary, writing and listening skills necessary to work on legal materials. To give exam practice relevant to the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC).

Target Students

It is intended for anybody who has a special interest in law and needs to use the English of Law for their studies or work. It is also suitable for those students wishing to take the ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) exam in either June or December.

To study English for Lawyers your English needs to be at Level 9 or above.

Topics to be covered

During the course (48×3 hours each) the following topics will be covered:

  • The Practice of Law
  • Company Law
  • Contracts
  • Employment Law
  • Property Law
  • Intellectual property
  • Competition Law
  • International Legal English Certificate practice.
