SCIENCE IN KHARKIV

No scientist becomes famous until their ideas become popular.

Once one professor failed to explain to students his ideas and asked another professor to help him. And the reply was, ‘If you can not explain your thesis to a five-year old child, then your work does not make sense’.

British Council Kharkiv started doing popular science projects in 2004 to promote science among lay people (we call it science communication) and bridge the gap between scientists and general public through a string of popular science events on  sustainable development, climate change and other hot issues.

CAFE SCIENTEFIQUE

Café Scientifique is all about hot debates, “stupid” and “clever” questions, contradictions and truthful facts explained in a popular way, but Café Scientifique is never ever a lecture! It is a form of intellectual entertainment for non-science people with scientists over a cup of coffee in a most relaxing home-like atmosphere. Some people even see these meetings as an opportunity to meet new people and make friends.

JUNIOR CAFE SCIENTIFIQUE

Junior Café Scientifique originated from Café Scientifique. The main audience are school children who, just like adults, come to Cafe Scientifique to find out more about the world surrounding them, ask questions, enjoy debating science-related issues and challenging experts. We make sure that our events differ from school lessons and are most interactive and entertaining. Important detail: no need to do your homework and everyone is welcome - even if you know nothing about the topic to be discussed.

SCIENCE THEATRE

The forum theatre format is a non-traditional and interactive method encouraging dialogue with the audience to discuss up-to-date science issues.
Our performances demonstrate basic scientific concepts and inspire the audience to take part in the action, contribute and even influence development of the plot.
