Social Enterprise Development is a British Council project in Ukraine and across the world. Its main purpose is to promote social entrepreneurship as an effective way to conduct business for social purpose and help social entrepreneurs in Ukraine set up their own companies by providing legal, consultancy and financial support.
Social businesses have been successfully running in many countries worldwide. The UK now has an estimated 60,000 social enterprises, ranging from organisations training unemployed people to social care services and even community-owned inns!
The project partners in Ukraine are East Europe Foundation, Erste Bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ukrainian Fund of Support to Entrepreneurship and International Renaissance Foundation.
Social enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives whose profits are directed mainly at self-development, public affairs or resolving social problems. Such companies operate as business organisations do and generate profit, therefore they are non-charity. Social entrepreneurship is dynamically growing in European countries now, addressing unemployment, social protection and social inclusion. In particular, there are over 50,000 social enterprises only in the UK.
Being entrepreneurial is much more than just doing a deal. It’s also about creating the ideal: empowering your community and solving social problems.
