British Council Ukraine in partnership with the Association of NGOs ‘Socio-Economic Strategies and Partnerships’ and NGO ‘Agency for Legislative Initiatives’ is implementing the project ‘The Citizen and the State: Developing Partnership for Good Governance in Ukraine’ financed by the European Union.
The project will aim to increase transparency and good governance in Ukraine, through improved policy and strategy processes at local and regional levels, and enhanced accountability and citizen engagement with elected representatives.
This two-year project will be piloted in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts with the results being widely disseminated throughout Ukraine during the second year of the project lifetime. A core group of experts has been formed to share the skills and the methodologies for influencing public policies and community mobilisation.
The main activities of the project are the following:

Workshops on Strategy and Policy Development Framework and seminars on accountability to citizen for regional elected representatives and appointed officials |

Workshops on advocacy, lobbying, coalition building, partnership development and introduction to Citizen Participation Strategy for civil society organisations |

Community level events to facilitate practical engagement of the target groups in policy and strategy development |

Development of models and ‘How to’ guide on the implementation of the Citizen Participation Strategy for wide dissemination throughout Ukraine |

National dissemination conference to showcase Citizen Participation Strategy and Strategy and Policy Development Framework developed and piloted by the project |

 |
Amendments and recommendations for changes to the laws on self-governance for submission to the Parliament of Ukraine. |
