The British Council won the 'Equal Opportunities: Best Employer 2010' Ukrainian national competition

    10 December 2010
We won the highest awards in two categories: ‘Best Employer (25–100 employees)’ and ‘Best employer for the family’. This was achieved with our high international employment standards, Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy, gender equality policy and comfortable working conditions for families with children.

Developing Partnership for Good Governance in Ukraine

We launched the ‘The Citizen and the State: Developing Partnership for Good Governance in Ukraine’ project. The project aims to increase transparency and good governance in Ukraine, through improved policy and strategy processes at local and regional levels, and enhanced accountability and citizen engagement with elected representatives.

Customer Service Week 2010 was held at the British Council

    Events during 4-8 October 2010 included fashion show from Marks & Spencer, autograph session of Andriy Kurkov, charity auction and artwork exhibition. The best in contemporary British music now in Ukraine

    The Selector international music radio show – a compilation of the best of contemporary British music, across all styles – was launched on 22 September on Prosto Radio. The Selector is not another playlist of British international music hits – it will introduce you to new sounds and talents from the UK you have never heard on Ukrainian radio stations.

'Seeing in Colour' exhibition and discussion with British artist

    'Seeing in Colour' graphics exhibition is about to open in Kyiv (7–14 October 2010) and Lviv (18–24 October 2010), presenting works by 23 contemporary British artists. Besides the colourful display, there will be time for a colourful discussion with Amy Pettifer, a British artist.

Contemporary media arts programme

    Hundreds of Ukrainian art lovers came to see the programme of British Contemporary Media Arts at the Balaklava Odyssey Festival in Sevastopol (12–13 August 2010) and the Lviv Week of Contemporary Art (27–29 August 2010).

‘Life after military service’

    The premiere of ‘Life after military service’ film took place in Kyiv on 19 July 2010. The film is about Ukraine-NATO resettlement and retraining programme which runs from 2001 and helps former military personnel to get employment.

International educational project for schools launched

    The British Council Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine have signed the Memorandum of cooperation on Connecting Classrooms international programme on 29 June 2010. The programme builds lasting partnerships between groups of schools in the UK and in over 60 countries around the world.

Members of Ukrainian Parliament learning English

    On 25 March 2010 the British Council opened a Self Access Centre in Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Members of Parliament and their assistants, staff of parliamentary committees and administrative personnel now have an opportunity to learn English by using British Council learning software, online resources and reference handbooks.

The best design concept of Troitska Ploshcha has been announced

    The results of the competition for the best design concept and the arrangements of Troitska Ploshcha near the ‘Olimpiyskyy’ National Sport Complex in Kyiv have been announced on 19 March 2010. The competition lasted for 2.5 months, 35 works were submitted for jury's consideration.
