On 13 July 2011 participants of an open-air ArtPole Fest had a chance to meet young British band Trio VD.

The young boys from Northern English city of Leeds brought to Ukraine the sound which is both original and unheard before.

How was it?

‘It were us who screamed, "Guys! You are unbelievable!" and ran towards the stage. We really wanted to meet the musicians and liked the manner of performance, the combination of different styles and the way the guys worked on stage – so fast and so easy!’
Serhiy Glow and Yana, vj-group Cube, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine

‘Such professionalism! This is the music that Ukraine lacks… TrioVD was a great example for Ukrainian musicians showing them that they need to experiment and develop.’
Vadim Ilkov, cameraman, Kyiv, Ukraine

‘TrioVD showed me a completely different dimension for music perception’
Volodymyr Malygin, Moscow

About the TrioVD band

‘The terrific Leeds-based Trio VD followed up with an equally ferocious display, this time a fast, tight and awesomely expert conjunction of spiky high-energy compositions, uninhibited sax and guitar improv and machine-gun drumming’ John Fordham – London Jazz Festival Review, The Guardian.

Since their first performances in early 2006, Trio VD have proven themselves to be among the most exciting and energetic bands associated with the Leeds Improvised Music Association (LIMA).

LIMA is a Leeds-based collective of musicians that has been producing and promoting improvised music since its inception in 2005. Other LIMA musicians include maverick pianist Matthew Bourne and the in-demand double bassist and composer Dave Kane. ‘LIMA are rapidly making a name for producing some of the most progressive sounds anywhere in the country’ Jazzwise.

The past year has seen the band blow away audiences at The London and Gateshead Jazz festivals and feature heavily on Radio 3’s Flagship Jazz show ‘Jazz on 3’. Trio VD’s appearance at the Time Out ‘On The Up’ festival was voted ‘4th best gig of the year’ in Time Out’s 2008 round-up. The band were picked to be part of the BBC’s Introducing initiative in 2008 and their cover version of Radiohead’s ‘Nude’ was featured in The Guardian London Jazz Festival special in November 2008.

Trio VD’s debut album ‘Fill it up with Ghosts’ was released by renowned U.K Jazz label Babel (Acoustic Ladyland / Polar Bear) in November 2009.
