Rules of British Centre

British Centre at the National Ivan Franko University of Lviv operates with the support from the British Council.

The British Centre is open to students, teachers, professionals, specialists and researchers in various subjects with the interest in English or in the UK.

The use of materials and facilities in the Centre is free.

What does the British Centre give me?

An access to:

  • English Language collections: English For Teachers; English For Study; English For Work; English For Leisure
  • reference materials including dictionaries and encyclopaedia
  • modern and Classical English Literature collection
  • information on UK education
  • information on British scholarships and educational programmes
  • printed resources for your study, leisure  or professional development or research in various subjects: Banking and Finance, Management and  Business Administration, European Studies and EU Law, Governance and Human Rights
  • materials for preparation for Cambridge exams and other British examinations including IELTS
  • printed resources on UK Today
  • modern and classical UK Music collection
  • modern and classical UK Film collection
  • BBC Live Broadcasting
  • newspapers and magazines from the UK.

How to use our resources?

Resources in the British Centre are available for reference, for your study, research or professional development on a self-access basis. Please use our Self-Access Guides and Catalogues to find necessary materials.

You may watch BBC Live.

You may use our audio/video facilities to listen to CDs or watch videos and DVDs. Please follow instructions on the use of facilities in the Centre.

If you damage a resource of the Centre, you will be required to pay the full cost of the item, or replace it.

Attending public events

All visitors are invited to our public events.

Entrance to all our events is free. However, as our space is limited follow our announcements and book for the events in advance.

Photocopying

There is a self-access photocopying service in the centre. You can get special card at the issue desk to make copies of A4 format. You can make photocopies of the British Centre materials only.

Internet access and E-resources for study, research and professional development

You may reserve access to these facilities in advance. During busy periods access will be restricted to one hour at a time.

You may save useful information on a flash drive device.

Please do…

  • leave your coats and bags in the university cloakroom on the ground floor
  • switch off ring tone of your mobile phones entering our centre
  • note that British Centre staff is not responsible for customers' belongings.

Please do not…

  • bring food or drink into the Centre
  • install software programmes of any kind
  • access unauthorised or offensive web-sites
  • remove any materials from the premises.
