Recognised throughout the world, the IGCSE develops vital educational skills, including recall of knowledge, oral skills, problem solving, initiative, team work and investigative skills. Normally studied over two years with candidates taking the exam at 16, the exams cater for different levels of ability with a choice between core and extended papers in many subjects.

The core curriculum is based on an overview of the subject and is suitable for students expected to achieve Grades C to G. The extended curriculum is more challenging and designed for students who are expected to achieve Grades A* to C. Success at IGCSE provides the foundation for higher level courses such as GCE AS & A Levels.

An O-level is a qualification for students, usually taken in their final year, at the age of fifteen/sixteen. You can take any number of O-levels, depending on the qualifications that your chosen institutions ask for. Most students take up to nine O-levels after studying for two years in their chosen subjects. You also need to check that the O-level qualification you want is recognised by the institution where you want to study your A-level.

Qualifications at O-level level are sometimes demanded by universities in addition to those at A-level.

An A-level is an Advanced level GCE qualification. This exam is normally taken by school leavers after two years of A-level study. You can take any number of A-levels; this will often depend on the qualifications that your chosen institution has asked for.

Good A-level results can give you access to undergraduate studies at some of the best higher education learning institutions in the world. A-level qualifications can also give you access to professional and vocational courses.

A-Level students are very well prepared for university education. A-levels are designed as pre-university courses and in many cases are considered equivalent to first year university courses.

You are advised to select the AS/A-level subjects related to the field you are interested in.
