IELTS provides results for all levels of English: there is no such thing as a pass or fail. You will be given a score from 1 to 9 for each part of the test - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average produces your overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test.
You can get a preview of your test results online from 12.00 on the 13th day after the test (i.e. after 12.00 on Friday of the following week if the test was on a Saturday). Visit the British Council's IELTS online results system web page and follow the instructions. You will need to enter your test date, candidate number, and birth date.
You can also receive your result by SMS if you complete the form given to you on the test date.
The Test Report Forms are issued 13 days after the test. Yours can be collected from the British Council or posted to you if you complete the courier despatch form when you register. You can also authorise a representative to pick up the Test Report Form for you. Please fill in the authorisation form.
The Test Report Form shows your IELTS scores for all four skill areas - listening, reading, writing and speaking - as well as your overall band score. It also has your photograph on it and an inbuilt security system so that it cannot be copied.
If you are unhappy with your test result, you can apply for a re-mark by filling in and submitting an Enquiry on Results form. You must make the application no later than six weeks after the test date. You can choose which test components are re-marked. There is a fee of AED 400 for this service which will be refunded if your score on any component is increased. Enquiries on Results take six to eight weeks to complete from the time the documents are received from the UK.
