With the Public Diplomacy Project, we aimed to inform and engage individuals and organisations in Turkey in order to improve understanding and awareness of the United Kingdom in the fields of business and its relations with society.
The Public Diplomacy Pilot Project, in collaboration with the British Council, the UK Trade and Investment and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Turkey focuses on “UK Economy and Business” which aimed to create a better environment for Turkish and UK companies to do business.
Our new booklet, ‘Actions for a Better Business Environment,’ offers a collection of essays reflecting a range of views from civil society, business associations and corporations. The essays attempt to provide answers to the burning question of ‘What kind of a business environment would a company choose if it was seeking to develop its business, increase its profits and be encouraged by the community in which it operates?’
What kind of a business environment would a company choose if it was seeking to develop its business, increase its profits and be encouraged by the community in which it operates? Our new publication, ‘Actions for a Better Business Environment,’ offers a collection of essays in an effort to provide answers to that very question.
The booklet is the final product of our Public Diplomacy Pilot Project, which began two years ago with the aim of creating a better business environment for both UK and Turkish businesses. The project, which was run in collaboration with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UK Trade & Investment, has brought together the business world, journalists, academia, business students and trade unions, both in Turkey and the UK, by creating information sharing platforms, organising workshops, arranging study visits to the UK, and implementing practical programmes.
This collection of articles will provide examples of practices and expertise that may help you to develop further you understanding of not only why certain concepts like regulatory frameworks for decreasing transactions and conflicts, skilled labour force, and low risks associated with environmental challenges matter for better economic relations, but also what fruit has been borne as a result of the activities of the respective partnerships.
The individual chapters and case studies in the booklet represent a range of views and insights from our partner organisations from civil society, business associations and corporations, and give a good overview of the work in which we at the British Council are engaged. All emphasise the relevance, importance and potential of how we operate in a world that continues to move forward in the face of both cultural and economic challenges.
The booklet includes 14 articles under four main headings, which are Corporate Social Responsibility: Engaging Business with Development; Professional Skills: Empowering Education for Business; Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Extracting New Ideas; and Legal Framework: Establishing Confidence. Each section delivers ideas and examples of how and why each can facilitate a better business environment, how the issue is addressed in the UK, and what can the UK offer to stimulate this process.
Ceyhun Göcenoğlu, our Public Diplomacy Project Manager and the Editor-in-Chief of ‘Actions for a Better Business Environment’ shared his sentiments at the publication of the booklet, “It is fascinating to see the bigger picture of and how each theme is linked with each other in shaping a better business environment.” We hope you will enjoy reading the booklet; it is our belief that you may find an opportunity to benefit your own organisation by drawing inspiration from these insights.
