Migrant Cities is a regional research project under the “Living Together” initiative of the British Council and which targets developing intercultural dialogue between the Southeastern Europe and the United Kingdom. The cities included within the scope of the project are as follows: Athens, Bucharest, Cardiff, Glasgow, Istanbul, North Nicosia, South Nicosia, Nottingham and Tirana.

This project was expected to create local debates not only in Turkey, but also in the South East European cities, in making contributions to all stakeholders.
The research project in Turkey has been performed by Prof. Dr. Ahmet İçdugu and Kristen Sarah Biehl, who together form the team of Migration Research Program (MiReKoç) at Koç University. IPPR (Institute for Public Policy Research) in UK has also provided coordination and consultancy services for the regional research, which encompasses 8 cities including Istanbul.
In the regional Conference held by the British Council on the dates of November 24th and 25th, 2008 in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, the research presentations as regards with all the cities have been made, and the findings belonging to the research reports and the best practices have been discussed with the participation of the researchers interested in the subject of international migration and integration, the non governmental organizations and the policy makers.

It is expected that approximately 40 participants from the Universities, Governmental Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Municipalities, etc, and from the media will attend the Launch workshop that will take place in Kazlıçeşme Kültür Merkezi(*) with the contribution of Istanbul Zeytinburnu Municipality on February 11th, 2009.
