Imagine Your Future is another multi-lateral project of British Council’s LivingTogether Initiative. Imagine Your Future aims to change the way minorities and migrants are presented in the media by giving young people from minority and migrant communities the voice and the opportunity to tell their stories today, talk about their aspirations and so shape their own future. Products of digital stories can be produced for radio, TV, print media, or web-based, and they can be a news item, documentary, fictional piece, or an advertising campaign – depending on the local context. They aim to challenge people to stop, think again, and see some new ways of presenting migrants in the media, instead of the common stereotypes.
Imagine your Future is being implemented in 12 places in the South East Europe (SEE) region: Athens, Baku, Cardiff, Cornwall, Istanbul, Ljubljana, Nicosia, Skopje, Sofia, Tbilisi, Haifa, Yerevan.
As part of the project, we trained a group of young migrants living in Istanbul, Turkey to create their own digital stories, which will be presented to the media.
In Turkey main focus is on migrant communities. As part of the project, we trained a group of young migrants living in Istanbul to create their own digital stories, which will be presented to the media.
The British Council’s Project in Turkey was conducted in collaboration with İstanbul Bilgi University (Media and Communication Systems Department and Centre for Migration Research) that delivered trainings, provided technical and professional supports and launch of the digital stories.
We also received technical support from UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) and IOM (International Organization for Migration).
