“Darwin Now” exhibition was prepared by the British Council as part of a series of international activities organized to commemorate the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the first appearance of his book “On the Origin of Species”.

While Charles Darwin’s works still continue to influence biology and other branches of science, his books offer us a different perspective on some of the important questions we face today in the 21st century. The exhibition aims to reach people all around the world with an international programme of activities and offer the opportunity to explore the relationship between evolution and religion in an open manner free of prejudices.

“Darwin Now” in Other Countries

			Within the scope of the “Darwin Now” exhibition, British Council organizes a diversity of activities including international conferences, seminars, Café Scientifique science discussions, trainings and exhibitions and makes available a variety of Internet resources.
			The “Darwin Now” Project is being carried out in 25 countries including the USA, Australia, Bulgaria, China, France, Croatia, Hong Kong, Spain, Canada, Korea, Cuba, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Greece.
			“Darwin’s Living Legacy – a Conference on Evolution and Society” will be held in cooperation by the British Council and the Bibliotheca Alexandria in Egypt in November 2009. www.bibalex.org
			With this international Project, British Council has added an international dimension to activities such as the  “Darwin 2009 Cambridge University Festival”  and “Wildscreen Festival” held in the UK. www.darwin2009.cam.ac.uk , www.wildscreenfestival.org
			The second “International Student Summit on “Evolutionary Science and Darwin’s influential legacy of theories and works” oriented to the 16-18 age group will be held in July 2009 with participants from all countries taking part in the Project. The first International Student Summit on this theme was held in November 2008 in the UK by British Council in partnership with the Natural History Museum. www.nhm.ac.uk
