ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS

Everyone will be able to access the “Energy Performance Label” of their buildings.

British Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, carried  out a project, “Tend Your Building, Save Money,” for public awareness raising on energy efficiency in buildings.

Through this project, British Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, aimed  to inform the building owners of the “Energy Performance Label,” which has become compulsory for the new buildings and which needs to be attained until 2017 for the existing buildings. The project, took  the UK model as its foundation, aimed to facilitate everyone to acquire information on their buildings, as well as provide suggestions for proper and effective improvement.

Project covers

A Software Programme:

A software programme, accessible to everyone,  by entering simple and basic data into this programme, you will be able to obtain the unofficial “Energy Performance Label” for your building, and see the suggestions on how you can improve your building’s performance.

You can now access the Energy Efficiency in Buildings Self Certificate Software Programme here

What is the Energy Performance Label?

It is a document containing the minimum energy requirement, energy consumption classification, insulation details and the efficiency of heating and/or cooling systems of the buildings, in accordance with the “5627 No. Law of Energy Efficiency” and the related “Energy Performance Regulation in Buildings,” initiated for using energy and the energy sources efficiently and effectively, preventing energy waste and protecting the environment.

“Public Awareness Raising Meetings” in 7 cities

PUBLIC AWARENESS RAISING MEETINGS’ IN SEVEN CITIES

Public Awareness Raising meetings organised in seven cities in order to demonstrate how the software programme will be used, and provide information on the importance of energy efficiency, short-term and long-term reflections on the budget, and answer questions from the participants. The meetings facilitated by trained representatives from the Ministry Province Directorates.

A two-day training was held on December 2011 in Ankara for representatives from 20 Ministry Province Directorates for providing information on the software programme, and general information on energy efficiency, climate and environment that would serve as the basic content for “Public Awareness Raising Meetings.” The seven cities were also determined in this meeting.

Stakeholder meetings were held in Afyon, Ankara, Antalya, Artvin, Bursa, Çanakkale and Kahramanmaraş in January, which helped established a platform for collaboration with potential stakeholders. Under the facilitation of representatives from each city, and with the support of such stakeholders as universities, non-governmental organisations, media and local governments, Public Awareness Raising Meetings were held in Artvin, Ankara, Antalya, Artvin, Bursa, Çanakkale and Kahramanmaraş in February.
