In June 2004 we brought four experts from Turkey to visit the library at the House of Commons in London. They were able to share lots of ideas with their UK counterparts. Discussing how to present and prepare research, how to deal with members of parliament and their staff, and how to organise an efficient library and research services.
We run a project called "A Journey Towards and Information Society: Social Aspects of e-Transformation" for contributing to improvement of the information society in Turkey in partnership with Turkish Intelligence Foundation and Museums Libraries & Archives Council in the UK
The brainstorming workshop in June 2005 has brought together experts from a range of sectors (including university, finance, law, sociology, arts, psychology, etc.) to identify needs and requriements in Turkey becoming an information society. For the outcomes of the workshop, please check out A Journey Towards an Information Society website.
Towards an Information Society for All (TISA) is a series of conferences that have brought together entities from European Civil Society to discuss the digital divide and social cohesion. The overall aim of TISA is to promote awareness among information professionals of topical issues in the European information society.
Librarians gathered at Istanbul Bilgi University on September 19th –21st to consider the future development of public libraries as important players in the Information Society.
From the start, the impression was that government and influential stakeholders are committed to drive forward change in Turkish Public Libraries. All of the speakers made clear their commitment to change in public libraries to regain some of the momentum that existed in the past but to move forward much more quickly. For more information please check out conference website.
