The Izmir British Council library is now located at Izmir University of Economics in Balçova and was officially opened by the British Ambassador, Sir Peter Westmacott, in June 2004.

What we offer

Under the partnership with the British Council in 2004, access to the combined library collection was extended to outwith the university.  The aim is to offer an English language lending service, that includes both a physical and a virtual presence, which supports the learning and teaching of English, as well as keeping members informed of current trends in the UK.  The library has 196 internet connection ports, along with 23 computers with internet access. Two additional catalogue computers allow users to search the library catalogue

How can I become a member?

There are two categories of library membership

1. Standard Membership

Standard membership is for those based outwith the Izmir University of Economics.  It gives access to the full range of library services.   Members use a library membership card.  Items needed for registration are

			Identification an identity card, driving license, valid student ID card
			Proof of address this may be a work or student ID card with an address written on it, a telephone bill or a letter which has been delivered by post
			Two photographs
			Annual membership fee           Standard60 YTL           Student45 YTL

2 İzmir University of Econonomics Associate  Membership

Izmir University of Econonomics Associate  Membership is for those associated with the Izmir University of Economics (staff, students, members of the Board of Trustees).  There are two levels of service.

			Service available using an IUE student or staff ID card Books, magazines and kits (book and cassette sets) can be borrowed using an IUE identity card.  No additional registration is needed.
			Service available needing additional registration For borrowing DVDs, music CDs, audiocassettes, multimedia CDs and videos, an additional registration is needed by the library, to be able to issue a full library membership card.  Two photographs will need to be provided.  The membership fee will be covered by the university.
