Students who are accepted for Bogazici University are mandated to take English prep classes provided they have not been able to demonstrate good level of English language skills. Those who has achieved the minimum required score determined by senates of the university, from a globally recognised and trusted exam such as IELTS may begin directly from first grade.

In Istanbul Kultur University we test our students on four basic subjects such as listening, reading, writing and speaking, to determine their proficiency in English language. Every year we have 20 of our students take IELTS exam to have a perception on how well we have done on our set targets. On this occasion we benefit from IELTS results for foreign language education and foreign language educational strategic planning to set our standards high and question our system for a much better quality.

Okulum Sabancı Üniversitesi’nin kendi uyguladığı hazırlık muafiyet sınavı olan ELAE’den geçerli seviyeye ulaşamadığım için IELTS sınavına hazırlandım. Sınavların sık aralıklarla gerçekleştirilmesi, başvuru işlemlerinin kolay olması ve en önemlisi kağıt-kalem ile uygulanması alternatifler arasında bu sınavı tercih etmeme sebep oldu. Bilgisayar ortamında gerçekleştirilen sınavlarda konsantrasyon problemi yaşadığım için başarıya ulaşamıyordum. IELTS’den 6.5 alarak bölümüme başlamaya hak kazandım.

Boğaziçi Üniversitesi hazırlık sınıfını geçip bölümüme başlayabilmek için IELTS’e girmeyi tercih ettim çünkü kağıt-kalem ile uygulanması bilgisayar ortamında yapılmasından çok daha mantıklı. Sonuçların hızlı açıklanması da kararımı etkilemişti tabi. Sistemli bir şekilde çalışarak 7.0 aldım ve bölümüme başladım.

Amerika’da yüksek lisans yapmak istiyordum ve IELTS’in de kabul edildiğini duymuştum. Bilgisayar ortamında yapılan sınavlara göre daha rahat olacağını düşünerek IELTS’e girdim, hedeflediğim okullara başvurdum ve cevaplarını bekliyorum. Yüksek lisans yapmasam bile çalıştığım bankadan dil tazminatı almak için IELTS işime yarayacak. Keşke hiçbir sınava girmesek ama zorunluluk durumunda IELTS’i öneririm.
