WHY DO I NEED TO TAKE THE IELTS TEST?
IELTS assesses and certifies your ability to use English language in multiple contexts. A good score (usually 6.0 and above) is an entry requirement for many colleges and universities worldwide. Immigration offices require scores on a range of 4 to 6.  
When and where in Turkey can I take the test?

You can sit the test in three centres in Turkey: Ankara, Istanbul and İzmir. These centres are coordinated from IELTS Coordination Centre in British Council - Istanbul.

WHICH IELTS MODULE SHOULD I TAKE?

IELTS is administered in two different modules: Academic Training and General Training.

Choose the Academic Reading and Writing module if you are planning to undertake academic study in a higher education institution.

If you are planning to undertake non-academic training or apply for immigration to Australia, Canada or New Zealand, we recommend you take the General Training Reading and Writing modules

Please consult to the institution you’re applying to.

What is the format of the test?
The test has four parts:
Listening 30 minutes
Reading 1 hour
Writing 1 hour
Speaking 13 – 15 minutes / per candidate

*Speaking test can be held in +/-7 days from written exam.

How much does the IELTS test cost? Can I pay the Examination fee in Turkish Lira?

The fee for IELTS Examination is 375 TL. The fee must be paid in Turkish Lira.

How can I pay 375 TL from abroad? Can I pay in Euro or Dolar and with credit card?

Do not make transfers in other currencies. Transfers made any other currency but Turkish Liras will not appear in our account and bounce back to yours. We don’t accept payments with credit card.

In order to have 375 TL IELTS Examination fee transferred safely, please make sure that you have all the bank details as stated below.

Please note that you are responsible for all the extra transfer and exchange fees. Therefore, payments less than 375 TL are considered as ‘incomplete’. You must make sure that you pay the full amount ın order to ensure your registration.

After payment, you are required to complete your on-line registration on our website. We strongly suggest IELTS applicants to complete payment and on-line registration on the same day to avoid problems. You may also phone the registration office on +90 212 355 5657 to confirm your payment. The Exams Department has all the rights to refuse your application if the procedures are not followed as stated above.

How often can I take the IELTS test?
According to the revised candidate policy, IELTS candidates may repeat the test as often as they need to. There are no restrictions/limitations on the frequency of registration to IELTS.
How / When will I get my results and how can I have my Test Result Forms sent to institutions?

Test Report Forms (TRFs) are announced online on the 13th day after the test date. The original Test Report Forms are also posted to candidates on the same day. TRFs arrive in sealed envelopes via a courier company. Details of results cannot be declared over the telephone, fax or e-mail.

Candidates will receive only one copy of their test report form. Additional Original test report forms can be sent directly to the institutions only.

In order to send additional Test Report Forms to the institutions in Turkey or abroad, you need to transfer one of the following delivery fees to the bank account below. Please include you first name, last name, IELTS Examination date and write ‘TRF’ on the bank deposit slip and then send an email to ielts@britishcouncil.org.tr with your full name, mailing address, date of exam and payment date:

Extra IELTS Test Report Forms will be sent to the institutions on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

Results are valid for two years. It is not possible to print Test Result Forms older than 2 years.

Can I pay to receive my results earlier? (Express marking)
No. We do not provide an express marking service to release results earlier than 13 days after the test.
What do I need to bring with me to the test?
The first 4 pages of the application form
1 Photograph (taken in the last 6 months)
2 offically recognized ID's (i.e: National ID and Password)
I do not have passport and driver’s licence what should i do?
If you do not have a passport or driver’s licence, you should bring your ID and a residence permit with photograph (fotoğraflı ikametgah kağıdı).
What happens if I can not make it on time to the exam, can I still sit it?
The IELTS test begins on 09:00 am with the Listening section in all centres. If you are late for the first section, you cannot enter the exam room until the reading section.

I am a disabled candidate - do you provide assistance?

If you are a candidate with special needs please inform us of your disability upon registration so that the appropriate arrangements are made by the British Council.

There are two kinds of Special Arrangements:

Modified test materials

Administrative arrangements (e.g. extra time and supervised breaks; assitance with reading or writing)

Applications for modified test materials

Applications for modified test materials must reach the Cambridge ESOL Special Circumstances Unit at least three months before the test date. If the application is received after this, it is unlikely that the requested modified materials will be able to supplied.

Applications for administrative arrangements

Applications which only involve administrative arrangements such as extra time, supervised breaks or assistance with reading or writing, are authorised at the centre. Candidates should give at least six weeks’ notice of their requirement for these arrangements to allow centres time to check medical evidence where appropriate, and to organise practical maters such as extra staff or rooms.

Administrators may accept applications after the six-week deadline at their own discretion if they are able to make the necessary arrangements in time.

Where can I find the online IELTS practice materials?

The British Council is supporting IELTS Candidates with FREE Online self study materials called ‘Road-to-IELTS’. When your payment and the registration for the IELTS test is confirmed you will be sent access codes to the free materials. Please visit Road to IELTS page for further information.

How do I share my feedback or complaint about the service I get from the Examinations Services?

In order to serve you better, feedback/complaints about the conditions of the test must be given preferably on the test day in writing or no later than 5 days after the test date. Any complaints about the delivery of the test after the results are issued will not be considered as valid.

HOW DO I APPLY?

The IELTS Exam fee is 345 TL. Before completing your online application, you need to transfer  your payment using the account information on our website.

To apply for IELTS exam first candidates are advised to choose a  suitable date for examination. After choosing the date you can click on the link in our website and enter your personal details for your registration.

Payment without online registration won’t make your application valid. Please make sure to re-check your email address before you complete your application. All communication is carried out via your email address

What do I need to do after completing my registration?

If you have any doubts regarding your registration you can always confirm it by contacting us. Normally, you should receive an e-mail with your candidate number and Road to IELTS password 10-15 days before your exam.

If you don’t receive an e-mail when there’s 10 days left to exam please contact British Council immediately and ask for support. We would be glad to help you.

DO YOU ACCEPT LATE REGISTRATIONS?

We are not able to accept registrations after the deadline for application. However, if there is any availability  we can still consider late registrations subject to payment of  late registration penalty.

Candidates who want to register themselves after the registration deadline must get in contact with the exams department and have their names added to the late registration list.

As soon as there is availability  we get in contact with the candidates according to the waiting list.

MY CANDIDATE NUMBER WON’T WORK, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You will only be able to check your exam venue and speaking test date when they’re announced on our website. Attempts that are made earlier will be failed, yet this doesn’t mean any problem with your registration.
CAN I ARRANGE MY SPEAKING DATE?
If you send us an e-mail after completing your registration we help you with your request in case of availability. However we are unable to confirm your requests until the dates are announced on website. Requests that has been placed in the same week of exam or after speaking test dates are announced won’t be taken into consideration.
HOW DO I LEARN MY EXAM VENUE AND SPEAKING TEST DATE?
You will be able to check your exam venue and speaking test date from our website with your candidate number 5 days prior to your exam. This means Tuesday of your exam week when you’re taking your exam on Saturday. If you’re taking an exam that will be held in weekdays you should consult the British Council office a week before the exam.
