The Young Creative Publishing Entrepreneur award was organized in partnership with Turkish Publishers Association and Kalem Agency and the winners were announced on 3 November at an award ceremony.

Short listed finalists presented their experiences in publishing sector and future plans to the jury that included Filiz Aygündüz (Milliyet Newspaper – Manager, Arts&Culture Deartment), Hakan Günday (Author), Henry Volans (Head of Digital Publishing, Faber), Kenan Kocatürk (General Secretary, Turkish Publishers Association and Chief Editor of Literatür Publishing) and Nermin Mollaoğlu (General Manager, Kalem Agency and ITEF Istanbul Tanpınar Literature Festival).

Özkan is the founder of the publishing house Sinek Sekiz which publishes books focusing on sustainability and she stands out for her innovative and inspiring approach to publishing. Tamer is working at Doğan Kitap and she attracted the jury’s attention by her entrepreneurial communication plan which will improve the structure of the publishing sector in Turkey. The winners will travel to the UK for a one week industry programme including the London Book Fair to develop opportunities for commercial and collaborative work in future. All the expenses of the tour will be covered by the British Council and the winners will undertake a common programme with the other finalists where they will take part in valuable networking both with key UK publishing sector partners and amongst their Publishing Entrepreneur peers.

On the same night, we also had the 5th Young Creative Economy Club Meeting and Henry Volans, who is the head of Faber Digital, one of the leading publishing houses in Britain, shared his innovative experiences on digital publishing and answered the questions. The discussion was conducted by Aslı Perker who is an author and a journalist.
