The winners of the British Council’s International Young Design Entrepreneur Competition were announced on 3 July at an award ceremony held at British Consulate, Istanbul. The Competition was run in association with Istanbul Modern and sponsored by Eczacıbaşı Holding and VitrA.
50 designer entrepreneurs from diverse design practices applied competed to win the award. Yesterday 12 short listed finalists presented their experiences in design entrepreneurship and their future plans to the international jury that included Ron Arad, one of the leading designers worldwide.
Osman Can Özcanlı won the title “Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year, Turkey” for his innovative designs such as transparent toaster, origami DVD player and the ozpack. Özcanlı, who lives in Izmir and works as a consultant providing design solutions to companies, said “companies approach me to find solutions for the problems they face during product design phase and I try to propose creative solutions.” Alper Böler was awarded 1st runner up winning a cash award of €600 and Demet Bilici won 2nd place winning €400. In September Özcanlı will travel to the UK to represent Turkey and compete against representatives from nine other countries to win the title of International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year
