Creative Economy approaches the arts as a business which can both sustain individual artists and lead to wealth creation in the economy of whole countries. In order to help the development of this area, British Council Turkey office has been actively running award programmes for 2 years.
So far, we have organized 10 Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards in the following sectors: Design, Fashion, Publishing, Interactive Media and Screen. Finalists went to the UK to attend the sector tour which included visits, seminars, international fairs and shows that provided an opportunity for the finalists to have meetings with UK contacts for commercial or collaborative purposes.
The programme of Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards has been running in Turkey since 2008. From this programme there emerged a network of entrepreneurs from across the creative industries. After the YCE clubs in the UK and Poland, now British Council Turkey will fashion this network into a more formal structure which is known as Young Creative Entrepreneurs Club.
We are aiming to develop a network of these entrepreneurs to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas, to stimulate opportunities for collaboration and the dissemination of information. Through regular meetings with guest speakers and panel discussions together with informal networking opportunities and online forums, members can share stories, seek and provide advice and offer mutual support.
We will continue our meetings in the following months with speakers from different creative sectors.
