What is the role of literature in times of economic uncertainty and political upheaval?
Edinburgh International Book Festival and the British Council present a worldwide conference which will bring writers and readers together in a landmark series of literary discussions in 15 countries. In partnership with Yasar University, the conference comes to Izmir on 27 and 28 February, featuring İnci Aral, Denise Mina, Panos Karnezis and Sema Kaygusuz. The conference is open to public and simultaneous translation is availbale.

About In 1962 the city of Edinburgh hosted a Writers’ Conference that was so influential, it helped bring about the explosion of literary festivals as we know them today. In a major new programming partnership, the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the British Council are marking the fiftieth anniversary of that seminal occasion by hosting a Writers’ Conference that will involve authors across the planet.
The Edinburgh World Writers’ Conference is a unique series of events, lasting from August 2012 to August 2013. Leading writers from diverse languages and cultures will build the most complete picture of writing and its relationship to our lives ever attempted. In Turkey the writers will be discussing A National Literature and The Future of the Novel.
