Who should take the IELTS test?
Students applying to study in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US.
People planning to work or follow further study in the UK, Australia or the US.

Why do I need to take the IELTS test?
IELTS assesses your English language ability. A good score (usually 6.0 and above) is an entry requirement for many colleges and universities worldwide
When and where in Turkey can I take the test?

You can take the test in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.

Exam venues are announced to your email address stated on your application form, 3 days before the exam date.

Should I be entering the academic or general training exam?
Choose the Academic Reading and Writing module if you are planning to undertake academic study in a higher education institution.
If you are planning to undertake non-academic training or apply for immigration to Australia, Canada or New Zealand, we recommend you take the General Training Reading and Writing modules
What is the format of the test?
The test has four parts:
Listening 30 minutes
Reading 1 hour
Writing 1 hour
Speaking 13 – 15 minutes
How much does the IELTS test cost? Can I pay the Examination fee in Turkish Lira?
The fee for IELTS Examination is £110. No. All payments must be paid in sterling.
How can I transfer £110 from abroad?

In order to have £110 of IELTS Examination fee transferred safely, please make sure that you have all the bank details stated below.
Please note that you are responsible for all the extra transfer and exchange fees. Therefore, payments less than £110 will not be accepted.
In order to have your application accepted, you have to call +90 212 355 5657 and confirm your payment. The Exams Department Istanbul has all the rights to refuse your application if the procedures are not followed as stated above.

How often can I take the IELTS test?
From 1 May 2006 the policy on candidates re-taking IELTS within 90 days has changed and candidates will be able to repeat the test whenever they wish. Candidates will be able to repeat the test as soon as they wish.
How / When will I get my results and how can I have my Test Result Forms sent to institutions?

Test report forms are mailed to candidates on the 13th day after the test in sealed envelopes via a courier company. Details of results cannot be declared over the telephone, fax or e-mail.
You will receive only one copy of your test report form (TRF). Original test report forms can be sent to the institutions of your choice for a fee of £2.00 per copy, plus postage. You need to deposit £2 plus postage fee to the British Council Bank Account:

Include on the bank deposit slip: first name, last name, telephone number, IELTS Examination date and the delivery address. Fax the photocopy of the deposit slip to our Exams department Istanbul on: 0212 355 5659.

Results are valid for two years. It is not possible to print Test Result Forms older than 2 years.

Can I pay to receive my results earlier? (Express marking)
Since September 2005, we no longer provide an express marking service to release results earlier than 13 days after the test.
What do I need to bring with me to the test?
4 pages of the application form and the original Bank Deposit Slip
1 Photograph (taken in the last 6 months)
ID and Passport
I do not have passport and driver’s licence what should l do?
If you do not have a passport or driver’s licence, you should bring your ID and a residence permit with picture (fotoğraflı ikametgah kağıdı).
What happens if I can not make it on time to the exam, can I still sit it?
If you cannot come to the exam on time, you must wait until the following session begins.
