Under the British Council’s regional project "Skills for Employability", three consultants (Vicky Tipton - Advisor Vocational Partnerships - UK, Amira Aboul Khir -Education Manager, Near East North Africa and Fiona Pape -English Regional Manager, NENA) undertook a scoping visit from 14th to 17th July 08 to identify the needs and trends of the local market and determine common themes and key sectors to develop in the field of Vocational Education and Training (VET).
The programme of the visit included a series of meetings with senior officials of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Director of the Centre de Formation Continue et de Promotion Professionnelle ( CNFCPP), representatives of the Agence Nationale pour l'Emploi et le Travail Indépendent, the Centre National de Formation des Formateurs et d’Ingénierie de Formation(CENAFIF) and representatives of some companies in the private sector.
The project, which lasts over five years, will be focused on creating stronger ties between training/education and industry, supporting young people to develop an enterprise culture and a set of skills and personal qualities relevant to job market .This will enable them to make considered choices for the future and have a clear progression route as well as access to a richer learning experience.
Through the provision of international qualifications the programme will have a positive impact on raising the profile of VET and changing perceptions. All this will support the Tunisian government’s efforts to upgrade vocational education among young people.
