RELT Workshops at CENAFFE, October 27th & 28th 2006

On Friday and Saturday 27th & 28th October, two workshops took place at CENAFFE.  These were jointly hosted by the British Council and the Ministry of Education as part of the NENA (Near East and North Africa) RELT (Regional English Language Teaching) Project.  In attendance were secondary level teacher trainers from 13 different regions of Tunisia, and the two workshop facilitators, Hela Nafti (ELT Inspector, Ministry of Education) and Andrea Marsh (ELT Co-ordinator, British Council)

On Friday the topic of the workshop was, ‘Exploiting Authentic Reading Texts’, and the participants had the chance to design their own reading tasks for authentic texts chosen from two of the British Council websites, ‘Teaching English’ and ‘Learn English’.  On Saturday the workshop focused on, ‘Games from the Internet’, and participants tried out games from the two other British Council websites, ‘Go4English’ and ‘Language Assistant’, before giving a demonstration of one of these games to the rest of the group.

The participants commented that they had particularly valued the practical nature of the workshops and the opportunity to get together with their peers and exchange ideas about teaching and training.

The next workshop is provisionally scheduled for the beginning of December at The British Council in Tunis, and will include sessions on training techniques as well as further input on how the British Council’s websites can be exploited for teaching and training purposes.
