CAE indicates a high level of language competence for candidates wishing to use English for professional or study purposes. It is recognised by the majority of UK universities and higher education institutions as fulfilling entrance requirements in English language.
CPE indicates a level of competence which is recognised as fulfilling entrance requirements in English language by UK universities and many universities in other English-speaking countries, and by other institutions of higher education and professional bodies world-wide. In a number of countries the CPE provides exemption from local English language requirements or is a qualification for admission to courses or employment where a thorough knowledge of English is required.
