Terms & Conditions

 

The British Council has set out below all the terms and conditions which relate to The Pitch challenge.  These terms and conditions are the competition rules (‘rules’) and by entering the competition you will be deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions and have agreed to be bound by them.

We reserve the right to alter these terms and conditions/ rules at any time without prior notice.

The competition starts on the 9th of November 2009 and finishes on the 7th of February 2010.

  • The number of teams who can enter The Pitch challenge is limited.  The final decision as to which teams will take part is at the discretion of the British Council.

  • The challenge is open to senior high school students, studying full-time in Thailand at the time of competition entry.  

  • Team should be made up of four students (plus one lead member of staff from their school to act as a mentor), and team can consist of member from different schools. Students can be of any nationalities studying in Thailand in matthayom 4 – 6 or equivalent. For the final in Bangkok, the member or other representative teacher(s) or member (s) of staff should attend to support the team

  • The work submitted to the competition must be the work of the student team only. The teams’ schools will be asked to verify this. Members of staff from the school may help clarify the task, prompt thinking, explain any technical terms or refer students to helpful information, resources or sources of inspiration only. Members of staff should not undertake the completion of the brief or produce any of the output required for assessment during the competition. If evidence is established that shows that members of staff have unreasonably delivered parts of the brief then the team and institution will be disqualified from The Pitch.

  • Teams and team members should work independently of, and should not use material from any other teams. There will be guided opportunities for teams to share ideas during the competition stages.

  • Teams must all have an ability to communicate in English. At least two students in the team must have the ability to deliver a short presentation in English and to write or ask questions from the UK experts.  Contestants should note that their proficiency in English is not being assessed.

  • Teams must have access to, and be able to use a computer with an internet connection and that runs on Microsoft Office or equivalent.

  • All members of the team must be available to attend the live final on the 7th of February 2010 at Le Royal Meridien Plaza Athenee, Bangkok, accompanied by their mentor or another member of the school’s teaching staff.

  • Four teams will be selected as finalists and invited to the final in Bangkok on the 7th of February 2010.

  • There will be a range of prizes for different categories in the Challenge, and the overall winning team and up to 2 members of staff from your institution will win a programmed visit to the UK during 2010.

  • All prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.  

  • The British Council, Education UK and Coventry University will not be responsible or liable for the unavailability, delay or cancellation of prizes where availability is not within its absolute control or where the prize winner fails to take up a prize.

  • By entering the competition and submitting creative ideas, you agree for The British Council and the UK universities to reserve the right to use the outputs in print and online communications to support the delivery of the competition and to promote the value of a UK education.

  • The short-listing decisions of the UK and Thai Panel of Experts (judges) will be final and no correspondence on the decisions can be entered into. Feedback from the panel will be given to teams during the competition.

  • The winning team may be required to take part in publicity or public relations activities related to the competition.

  • Current UK Data protection legislation will be adhered to when collecting student and team contact details.

  • Competition entrants consent to photography, filming and sound recording of themselves during the period of the competition and its use in commercial distribution without payment or copyright throughout the World.
