How long is the placement test result valid for?
Six months
I want to take a placement test, what should I do?

You should:

1. Book a placement test time by phone, or walk in at the centre where you want to study.

2. Arrive at the centre on the booked date at least 20 minutes before the test time to fill in the application form and pay the fee of 600 baht for Bangkok centres or 350 baht for Chiang Mai centre.

3. You will receive your result on the same day, and be advised on the best course at the registration counter by our customer relations staff.

4. You can register and pay for courses or reserve a place and pay later within the reservation period, normally 7 days.

What does the placement test involve?
The placement test includes a 40 minute written test and a 5-10 minute speaking test.
Who is the interviewer for the speaking test?
One of our teachers trained in placement testing.
How long does the placement test take?
It takes about one hour.
Can I start a course without taking a placement test?
No. We need to know your level of English in order to advise you on the most suitable course for your level, unless you have recently taken an IELTS test and want to join an IELTS course.
When can I take a placement test?

Siam Square
every Monday to Thursday between 1600 and 1730, and every Saturday and Sunday between 0945 and 1500.

Ladprao
every Tuesday between 1430 and 1530; on Wednesday and Thursday between 1600 and 1800; and every Saturday and Sunday between 1100 and 1500.

Pinklao
Tuesday (1600-1730), Wednesday (1600-1800) and Thursday (1600-1730).

Chiang Mai
every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 1530 and 1730.

Can I use the placement test result from the Siam Square Centre to study at the Pinklao or Ladprao Centre?
Yes, you can.
Can I use the placement test result from Bangkok Centres to study at the Chiang Mai Centre?
You can present the test result from Bangkok but you may have to have an interview with one of our teachers to confirm your most suitable level of study.
I want to prepare for an IELTS test and I want to register for an IELTS course. What should I do?

You can register for an IELTS course at British Council Bangkok centres or at the Chiang Mai centre as follows:

1. If you have taken the test previously, present your valid IELTS score of 4.5 or above for studying at Bangkok centres, or 5.0 or above for studying at the Chiang Mai centre; or

2. Take a placement test for which your level should be Pre-Intermediate 3.2 or above for studying at Bangkok centres, or Intermediate 2 or above for studying at the Chiang Mai centre.
