The British Council has been creating opportunity and mutual understanding in Thailand since 1938. We aim to build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people in Thailand and the UK.
Mutuality is at the heart of everything we do and this is why we work in partnership with many organisations in Thailand across the government, NGO, private and commercial sectors. We always welcome exciting opportunities to create a greater impact with new partnerships and collaboration.

Our programmes
Through our work with the Ministry of Education we are contributing to the major programme of national curriculum reform in Thailand. We aim to create global citizens who are confident, creative, committed to lifelong learning and who are interested in, and understand something about, other cultures. Our programmes include policy-level seminars, activities to develop young leaders in secondary schools across Thailand and training events for teachers.
We believe in education for sustainable development. Our climate change programme focuses on raising awareness of the next generation, inspiring them to think creatively and to change their behaviour and their environment.
Our activities range from working with schools across Thailand to encourage students to think about their ‘ecological footprint’ and how to reduce carbon emissions in their community to competitions to encourage creative communication about climate change and publications to reach a wider public audience. We also work on expanding networks of influencers and communicators who will lead on this agenda in their communities in the long term.
In partnership with Thai authorities and organisations, we have been developing and implementing programmes which contribute to the development of the creative industries in Thailand. These include design, film, fashion, music, museum development, and intellectual property.
Recently we have been focussing on improving the lives of people in the city through art and design. In our innovative ‘Creative Cities’ programme, we are working with a wide range of partners, from Bangkok Metropolitan Authority to individual artists, designers and the general public, to help improve the quality of life in the city.
As a world authority in English Language learning and teaching, we provide access to the best resources for teachers, learners and their parents in Thailand. At the policy level, we are also a major contributor to curriculum development the national English language reform process. We organise regional symposia, conferences, and run teacher-training events for local institutions and partners.
