Building capacity in youth organisations

What is Debate to Action Project?
This is a capacity-building 'training of trainer' project aimed at  young leaders of youth organisations. The British Council and the World Bank are looking to recruit highly motivated part time personnel to organise and carry out training of youth leaders on development issues and peer education techniques.

Participants will learn about International and national frameworks for development, their own roles within these frameworks and how to share this information effectively with other young people. This knowledge will not only empower the learners but also contribute to transparency and accountability, which in turn supports good governance.

Overview and Objectives
The Capacity Building for Youth program, know as Debate to Action, is a training of trainers program aimed at youth leaders in youth organizations. Participants learn about international and national frameworks for development, their own roles within these frameworks, and how to effectively share this information with others in their communities. This knowledge not only empowers young people to be change agents within their communities, but also contributes to transparency and accountability which in turns supports good governance.

The objectives of the program are to:

Strengthen the development knowledge base and information networks of youth leaders and youth organizations.
Enhance the capacity of young people to become active and effective in helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP) through their work at the local, region and country level.
Improve participants’ own livelihood opportunities through enhancing their project management, critical thinking, communication, and training skills.

In Tanzania, the program is piloted in Dar-es-Salaam for the first year (2007) and is expected to be rolled out to other regions in subsequent years. Other participating countries are Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya and the UK. For more information please contact us.
