Teach English
Why study with us?

Our aim is to offer a high standard of English language and professional development training using modern, effective teaching methods and up-to-date educational technology and materials. We try to do this in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

How will I benefit?
All lessons are conducted in English, and teachers make use of a variety of teaching techniques, to give you maximum opportunity to take an active part in class activities.

We provide a balance of language skills practice. In our classes we encourage communication, question and debate. You will often work with other students and take part in true-to-life communicative activities.

There are students from a wide range of countries in our classes but the majority of them are Tanzanian nationals. The maximum number of students in a class is 18.

Our new purpose built classrooms are comfortable and air-conditioned. They are equipped with videos, computers and data projectors and stereos.

Your teacher will help you to take control of your own learning, so that you can also develop your skills outside the classroom, using resources available in the Self-access centre.

You will have the opportunity to use a variety of programs in our Multi-Media Centre, including the British Council’s “Network English” CD-ROMs.

Teachers
Our teachers all hold internationally recognised British qualification to teach English as a foreign language. They are professional and experienced teachers, and have worked in a variety of different countries.

Self-access centre
As a student on a regular public course you get automatic free membership of the Self-access centre. The Self-access centre stocks books, tapes and videos suitable for students at all levels and has study areas, videos and personal stereos for you to use.

Courses and levels available
Your starting level is determined by doing a course finder. See our information on how to register. We offer classes at the following eleven levels (subject to demand at registration):

Beginner
Elementary (A & B)
Pre-Intermediate (A & B)
Intermediate (A & B)
Upper-Intermediate (A & B)
Pre-Advanced
Advanced.

The class you enter depends on your placement test. A and B levels are separate courses. All courses shown here are General English courses that last for 50 hours.

Homework
You will be required to complete several “homework” tasks throughout your course, which the teacher will then mark and give feedback on. These could be tasks in any area of skills – not necessarily only traditional writing and grammar exercises.

At the end of the course
You will receive a British Council certificate allowing you to progress to the next level as long as you have made satisfactory progress. This means you must attend at least 75% of the course, participate well in class activities, produce satisfactory class work and homework and pass the end of term test. The pass mark is 65%.
