Here is a selection of science websites, ranging from those targeted at people with a general interest in science, to websites focusing on specific topics or targeted at specific audiences.

British Council Science
Our science website gives you an insight into science in the UK with the latest science news, funding opportunities as well as educational and research links. We cover topical issues like climate change and women in science and we have a variety of online resources for a global audience.

BBC Science and Nature
The BBC has a Science and Nature website, packed with information on a wide range of topics. As well as programme information, you can find articles, games, interactive quizzes and background information on subjects from dinosaurs to the solar system. You can also listen to BBC Radio Four science programmes online, such as the weekly ‘Material World’, presented by Quentin Cooper.

Guardian Unlimited - Science
The Guardian has a dedicated team of specialist science journalists and the science and technology section of the Guardian Unlimited website includes news and feature articles, the renowned ‘Bad Science’ column, and a weekly science podcast.

LabLit
This website is dedicated to the culture of the laboratory, and has interesting articles, profiles, reviews and essays about science and scientists. It also has a lively forum for debate that is open to all, scientists and non-scientists.

Sense About Science
An independent charitable trust promoting good science and evidence in public debates. It has briefing sheets on science and technology topics that are extensively covered in the media, such as bird flu, genetically modified food and climate change. If you need expert advice about a particular science story it can also help by putting you in touch with a relevant specialist.

Newton’s Apple
A science think-tank with the aim of bringing about a greater understanding of the vital way that science, technology and engineering contribute to the wealth of the UK and the health of its people. The website has details of current projects, as well as essays from eminent science thinkers.

New outlooks in science & engineering (NOISE)
Aimed at 14-19 year olds, the website features the latest science and engineering jobs, information about events, blogs, video clips and factsheets on how to create your own experiements, such as 'The mentos-coke fountain'.

Science and Development Network (SciDevNet)
Provides news and information about science, technology and the developing world. The site includes six topic gateways, practical guides to science communication, articles and comment, web feeds and language portals in English, French, Spanish and Chinese.

SciTalk
Provides a link between scientists and authors. It offers a way for scientists to communicate their expertise and their enthusiasm to writers, and a way for writers to find out about science - through personal contacts and face-to-face meetings.

Intute
An online service providing access to the very best web resources for education and research, including those related to science and technology. All material is evaluated and selected by a network of subject specialists to create the Intute database.

Chemistry World
Hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Chemistry World features articles on all aspects of the chemical sciences, together with job vacancies, commercial technology reports and other features. It also has comprehensive links to other RSC webpages, which include chemistry resources for scientists, teachers, school students and others.

The Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust is a large independent charity, dedicated to fostering and promoting research with the aim of improving human and animal health. The Knowledge Centre section of the website has a rich array of resources, including articles focusing on particular aspects of biomedical research.

Physics.org
Hosted by the Institute of Physics, this website is a gateway to the best physics resources on the web, including background information, games, teachers’ resources and information about careers in physics.

ScienceScotland
This is the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s publication covering scientific and technological advances in Scotland.

Talent Scotland
Talent Scotland offers news and information on the Electronic Technologies, Life Sciences and Financial Services industries in Scotland.

Wales on the Web
This is a portal to information about Wales and includes a section on science, with links to general science websites as well as subject specific resources.

The Irish Scientist
The Irish Scientist was set up to provide a means for Irish scientists and technologists (from both Northern Ireland and Eire) to describe their research to colleagues, legislators and the general public. Since 1999 the annual Irish Scientist year book has been available online.
