HOW SOON CAN A CANDIDATE REPEAT THE TEST?

There are no restrictions on candidates re-taking the test.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE FOR EACH TEST SESSION DATE?

Registrations are accepted up to one week before the session date, or until the session is full.

CAN A CANDIDATE REGISTER FOR IELTS ONLINE?

Yes. British Council provides a 24-hour IELTS Online Registration System. You can register for your preferred IELTS test date with only a few clicks. For other registration methods, please visit HOW TO APPLY FOR IELTS.

IS THE IELTS TEST COMPLETED IN ONE DAY?

IELTS Listening, Reading, and Writing are held in the morning of the test day. The speaking is conducted on the day of the written test or on another day.

WHEN WILL THE CANDIDATE KNOW THE TIME FOR THE SPEAKING TEST?

The speaking is conducted either on the day of the written test or on another day. The exact timings of the speaking test will be provided after candidate takes the written test. Candidates must arrive at the speaking test venue 30 minutes before their scheduled time.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CANDIDATE IS ABSENT ON THE TEST DAY WITHOUT GIVING PRIOR NOTICE?

The candidate will lose their full test fee, and will not be able to postpone the test. However, if medical evidence is provided within 5 days of the test date, the Exams Centre may adjust the decision based on the evidence.

FOR HOW LONG IS A TEST SCORE VALID?

Test report form will not be issued for tests taken more than two years ago. A receiving organisation may choose to accept an older Test Report Form if a candidate can provide evidence that they have actively maintained or tried to improve their English language proficiency since doing the test. However, this is the decision of the receiving organisation.  The Test Centre cannot provide any letter or references endorsing a candidate’s level of English.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CANDIDATE LOSES THEIR TEST REPORT FORM OR REQUIRES FURTHER COPIES?

Candidates will receive only one copy of their test result. Additional copies may be forwarded directly to institutions of the candidate's choice at any time within two years of the test date. Candidate can apply to the centre where they took the test.

HOW SOON CAN A CADIDATE RECEIVE THEIR RESULT?

Results will be produced 13 days after the test. Candidates may collect their results in person on the 13th day, or have the results mailed to them on the 13th day.

WHAT CAN CANDDIATES DO IF THEY ARE UNHAPPY WITH THEIR RESULTS?

Candidates who request a re-mark of their results, may apply for an ENQUIRE ON RESULTS procedure at the test centre where they took the test. Requests must be made within six weeks of the test date. There is a standard fee for this which is fully refunded should the band score change.

IS THE IELTS RESULT ACCEPTED BY USA UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTIONS?

Yes. Over 2,000 US universities and professional bodies accept IELTS scores as proof of English language skills, including the Ivy League and other private and public institutions across the country. USA Recognition List
